Thank you to those leaders who attended our roundtable debate, ‘Maximising the Impact of Professional Development: How schools can ensure Professional Development aligns with school goals and effectively enhances teaching quality and leadership capacity.’
Your insights into how you ensure high quality, impactful professional development was a pleasure to moderate and align brilliantly with the High Performance Learning school journey.

High Performance Learning in Hanoi, Vietnam
What a privilege it has been to celebrate Nguyen Sieu School's most recent achievements. The school launched the next stage of their development - the introduction of HPL in the school and into the wider Vietnamese educational community. It began with a spectacular event at Hanoi's beautiful Ho Guom Opera to celebrate the last 10 years in which the school has moved to become a truly international school through the adoption of the Cambridge Curriculum.
Professor Deborah Eyre was honoured to be a VIP alongside the British Ambassador, the Minister of Education, the Hanoi Education Minister, the Regional Director for Cambridge Education and the Chair of the school governors; and they were treated to an amazingly demonstration of talent through music, drama and dance.
On November 22, Nguyen Sieu School looked to the future with HPL at its core. The RedfinED Forum 2024 at Nguyen Sieu School was another spectacular event which welcomed over 100 school leaders. It was a privilege for Professor Eyre to Keynote on the topic of combining wellbeing and academic success. Then followed the very exciting launch of the HPL book in Vietnamese, an initiative led by the inspirational Nguyen Thi Minh Thuy, Principal of the school. It was a pleasure for Professor Eyre to work alongside the HPL team of Brynn Cooper and David Muir who each ran workshops while Professor Eyre recorded a podcast with a couple of inspirational students - exploring how HPL is supporting them to be confident and successful. Professor Eyre also had over 100 parents joining her and Nguyen Thi Minh Thuy, Principal of the school, to talk about using HPL to support development at home. There was lots of interest and some really thoughtful questions. Professionally it was an outstanding experience.

High Performance Learning at the AoBSO Annual Leadership Conference.
Our founder, Professor Deborah Eyre, and Head of Programmes and Partnerships, Cassey Benito, are at the AoBSO School Leaders Conference. Day one started off with a bang as James McDonald, AoBSO Chair opened the Conference and welcomed everyone present. James is also the Headteacher at an HPL World Class Accredited School, GEMS Wesgreen International School.
The first day of the AoBSO Conference was filled with inspirational and uplifting keynotes and we loved meeting with existing HPL schools and meeting other schools and school leaders.
The first guest speaker was Dr. Sabrina Hatton Cohen, leading international expert on risk- critical decision making in crises and is an Honorary Research Fellow at Cardiff University. She studied a 1st Class Honours degree in Psychology, a Masters in International Fire Service Development and a a PhD in Behavioural Neuroscience. We were specifically delighted that Sabrina aligns with the HPL philosophy and framework, where she highlighted that “anyone can be successful, regardless of their background, where they come from or their starting point in life.”
It was such a privilege to hear from:
- Sam McAlister: BAFTA-nominated interview producer and LSE senior fellow
- Emily Konstantas: Founder of The Safeguarding Alliance
- Thea Wiltshire from the Department for Business and Trade
- Dame Christine Ryan, Ofsted Chair
And lastly we ended off Day 1 with Adam Peaty OBE Triple Olympic Champion and 14 times World Record Holder. It was a real privilege to hear from Adam and his journey. I am sure all senior leaders left feeling inspired.
Adam highlighted that 'one can stay ahead by creating an environment that is focused and resilient on what you want to achieve.' He reiterated the importance of having resilience in order to win and to stay ahead in whichever career path you find yourself.
We are honoured to be part of the AoBSO family.
It was great to see Senior Leaders from our existing HPL Schools:
- New Cairo British International School - NCBIS (Paul Joseph)
- International British School of Bucharest (Kendall Peet)
- Nadeen School (James Batts)
- Durham School for Girls Doha (Vanessa Whay)
- GEMS Founders School - Dubai (Matthew Burfield)
- Wesgreen International School (James McDonald)

We are delighted to share with colleagues across the HPL community the ACP and VAA cribsheets that are being used at King Edward VI Handsworth Wood Girls’ Academy to support staff in making the framework of HPL explicitly linked to learning the curriculum. It’s a great way to have one pagers that support new staff and remind their existing community that the HPL framework is the key to unlock the curriculum. - Sally Yates, Deputy Headteacher– Quality of Education

We are thrilled to share with colleagues the incredible student led project Lee Hawkins, Deputy Head of Primary has been working on with their amazing Year 5 and 6 students at the International British School of Bucharest. Together, they’ve channelled creativity, originality, evolutionary thinking, and so many other High Performance Learning values and attitudes to develop.
The Wonderful World of Thoughtsville—a series of eight unique stories. What makes this project even more special is that it was almost entirely student-led.
Lee's role was simply to guide and support them. Their deep understanding of HPL competencies shone through, allowing them to create thoughtful, engaging, and impactful resources that will help the younger students connect with these ideas. Each story introduces a character inspired by the eight areas of the ACPs (Advanced Cognitive Performance characteristics) and VAAs (Values, Attitudes, and Attributes) making these abstract concepts engaging and relatable.
