Amy Lilley-Stewart, our Director of Professional Learning visited the UAE for the first time last week. Amy’s time in the UAE was packed with HPL school visits and delivering professional development sessions to the Fellowship and Global Community.
Amy led two professional development workshops alongside our International Director, Brynn Cooper. The first session was held at GEMS Cambridge International, Abu Dhabi on Wednesday, 9th October. This session was dedicated to teachers in FGC schools embarking on the HPL Teacher Certification Awards and provided vital insights into what it really means to teach in an HPL school. The session provided opportunities for colleagues to deeply reflect on their HPL practice and consider approaches to deepen and optimise HPL in their classroom and the wider school community.
On Thursday, 10th October, Amy and Brynn were delighted to lead our inaugural HPL Lead Global Forum, at GEMS Cambridge International School, Dubai. This HPL Lead Global Forum focused on supporting HPL Leads on how to utilise the ‘Towards Excellence in HPL Practice’ publication to ensure HPL is optimised in FGC schools. It was an opportunity to collaborate with a range of FGC schools, share best practice and discuss the latest teaching and learning approaches in the education industry.
Amy had the privilege of seeing HPL in action in a range of FGC schools. She would like to extend her sincere thanks to:
- Yasmina British Academy
- GEMS The Cambridge High School, Abu Dhabi
- GEMS Cambridge International, Abu Dhabi;
- GEMS Cambridge International School, Dubai
- GEMS Metropole
- The Sheffield Private School

Contextualizing HPL Icons to Vietnamese Culture at Nguyen Sieu School
We are delighted to share with colleagues across the HPL community how Nguyen Sieu School contextualised the HPL Icons to Vietnamese Culture.
Nguyen Sieu School has taken a unique approach to representing the skills and values of High Performance Learning (HPL) by aligning them with Vietnamese cultural symbols. These student-friendly icons not only strengthen the students' understanding of HPL terminologies but also deepen their connection to the nation's heritage in a way that feels relevant and relatable.
While other schools might use animals or superheroes to convey the values and skills of HPL (VAAs and ACPs), Nguyen Sieu School's choice of cultural icons brings a deeper cultural connection and meaning to the learning experience. These symbols help nurture not just academic excellence but also a sense of identity, heritage, and character in their students.
