School CSV Files - AY 23/24
HPL Leads please be mindful that an email was sent out to you by Cassey Benito on Tuesday, 25th of June, requesting your school's CSV file to access HPL Online. In preparation for the next academic year HPL requires your school's CSV file containing all staff contact details, this allows all staff access to the vast range of support accessible through HPL Online. To provide your staff with access to HPL Online, the HPL Lead needs to fill in as much information as possible in the CSV file attached. Only staff recorded will have access to HPL Online.
All CSV files should be returned to Cassey Benito by no later than Friday, 30th August 2024 at 1 pm (BST).

Practical Strategies for Becoming a more Effective HPL Classroom Teacher
The Albany Learning Trust led the 4th workshop in the CPD series 'Practical Strategies for Becoming a more Effective HPL Classroom Teacher.' During the workshop colleagues gained expertise and practical strategies on how to use practice and retrieval in an HPL Classroom. Colleagues who attended the workshop engaged with a range of strategies such as how to use quizzing and using a knowledge organiser to develop HPL skills and behaviours.
There is still time to book your place for the final workshop in this series on the 10th of September from 9 am - 11 am (UK Time). The final workshop will focus on how to develop curriculum planning in an HPL Classroom. Participants will engage with a range of strategies such as how to use coherent mapping and use tiered questions and problems to develop HPL skills and behaviours. To book contact getintouch@highperformancelearning.co.uk.
The Effective Teaching Assistant in an HPL School
Melanie Saunders, HPL Chief Education Advisor, led a thought provoking CPD session for colleagues in the role of a Teaching Assistant on the 5th of June 2024. During the workshop colleagues gained a deeper understanding of the HPL philosophy and framework, how it is used by teachers and how it helps pupils to systematically improve both confidence and performance. Colleagues explored the issues of language, challenge, opportunity and how these impact on performance as well as self-esteem.
Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive. ‘I found the knowledge I have gained valuable, and I look forward to using what I have learned in the classroom'. - Attendee

How do we move from Embedding HPL to Systematising and Optimising by Mark Tomlins
At this time of the year many of us are reviewing and reflecting on practice, development plans and roadmaps. Also at this time schools are celebrating their achievements for the year. Many Pathway Schools will be celebrating their WCSA or HPSA Accreditation and indeed Re- Accreditation. My question this week looks at the reflection process that leads into planning. Specifically, I would like us to think about the move from embedding to systematisation and optimisation.
- How will that work?
- How will we make HPL part of the DNA of the school?
- Are there schools or teachers out there that use HPL vocabulary to automaticity?
- As leaders how can you facilitate this?

Effective question design by Kate Jones (2024) - Evidence Based Education
"Great questioning in the classroom (and beyond) promotes deep thinking, helping students connect and elaborate on ideas. Great questioning to assess thinking helps teachers plan and adapt their teaching to respond to what assessment tells them".
This article looks at the integral role of questioning within teaching and learning. Read the full post below. This would be a useful read for colleagues to reflect on what questions could be applied in the classroom to allow pupils to engage with the VAAs and ACPS.
