Adaptive teaching in an HPL school with Catherine Noble

12 October 2023 | 10 a.m. and 3.45 p.m. (UK time)

We are thrilled to host this exciting and informative webinar delivered by Catherine Noble, Assistant Headteacher for Teaching and Learning at St Edmund's College & Prep School in Hertfordshire. She is the HPL Lead in the school and currently in the second year of World Class School Accreditation.

Baseline Impact Survey - All New Schools Only

A friendly reminder that our Baseline Impact Survey window is now open, for all new schools who joined HPL from September 2023. As you embark upon your journey of adopting the High Performance Learning philosophy and framework, we will be supporting you to track the impact of HPL through the completion of a series of baseline surveys.

These provide valuable information about the views and attitudes of key members of your school community. Please do encourage as many people as possible within your school community to participate by taking the brief survey. This will provide a better analysis when the survey window closes on 4th December 2023 . If you have any questions around this, please contact Michelle Bradbury .

Last call for CSV Files!

To ensure that all your staff can access HPL Online, an accurate and up to date CSV file should have been sent to Cassey Benito . If this has not already been sent to Cassey, please do this as soon as possible. Unfortunately staff not listed in your school's CSV file won't have access to HPL Online. The final deadline for CSV files is Friday, 13th October 2023.

Share your experiences and have your say!

HPL Online houses many fantastic resources and materials shared by the HPL Team and our HPL community. Part of those resources are our Subject Communities .

Launched last year, these are discussion forums centred around individual subjects. These forums allow our individual teachers to:

  • Share ideas;
  • Enter into debate; and
  • Share resources with others in the HPL community.

Current topics relevant to your subject will be raised by the community leaders as starters to conversations. These then become lively forums and great areas for inspiration.

As we come to the end of the first month of the school year, for most, we would like to encourage you in two areas:

  • Firstly, we are looking at recruiting more subject leaders for the community. So, have a look at the existing communities and if your subject is not represented and you would like to lead a forum, please get in touch with Mark Tomlins .
  • Secondly, we are encouraging all to check out the Subject Communities and get involved, have your say and share your experiences. We have a wonderful community who have fantastic ideas. Our subject communities are a great place to share them.

Register your students for our FGC Magic Encounters Competitions now!

Our Magic Encounters are designed to give teachers insight into the student voice and, through this, a better understanding of what students understand in their own words. They support increased parental awareness and engagement with the HPL philosophy. Additionally, they provide a wider context in which students can strengthen their use and application of the #ACPs and #VAAs.

This is a call to the Fellowship Global Community to register for FGC Magic Encounters Competitions on HPL Online with our Supporting Partners . Outstanding student achievements will be awarded by the Supporting Partner leading the competition. Don't miss out!

We have three Magic Encounters Competitions running simultaneously, register for one or for all three now!

FGC Programme Round Up

It has been a pleasure to welcome the Fellowship and Global Community to a series of Guest Webinars and Sector Network events.

HPL in the Classroom Webinar

We were thrilled to welcome Deanne Wiseman from Calday Grange Grammar School on 19th September 2023 to deliver an inspiring Guest Webinar: Speaking HPL in the Languages Classroom . This webinar provided colleagues with a range of tools for both planning and self-reflection. During the webinar, colleagues were able to reflect on how teachers can enable their pupils to become lifelong language learners. Feedback from colleagues who attended the webinar was overwhelmingly positive where colleagues commented on the clarity on how to effectively apply and embed the VAAs and ACPs. If you were unable to attend the webinar, you can access the recording below.

Guest Webinar

We were delighted to host a Guest Webinar on his latest book, ‘The A – Z of Great Classrooms’ by Dr Roy Blatchford on 26th September 2023. This was an engaging and thought-provoking webinar which provided opportunities for colleagues to consider what is the essence of memorable classrooms, what underpins the rich repertoire of a great teacher and the importance of giving teachers the creative space to balance a professional vocation with their own personality and personal interests. If you were unable to attend the webinar, you can access the recording below.

Sector Networks

Melanie Saunders chaired our first Sector Network focusing on HPL in Girls' Schools . These networks are an opportunity for HPL schools to meet with colleagues from schools in their sector, to reflect on sector specific aspects of HPL and explore its potential in their shared context. During the Girls' Schools Sector Network meeting, colleagues exchanged ideas and discussed areas such as risk taking, perseverance, attitude to learning, stereotypes and communicating with parents. If you were unable to attend the webinar, you can access the recording below.

💡 Thinking Education

The Generative Change Model: Creating the Agile Organization While Dealing With a Complex Problem Bushe, G. R. (2021). The Journal of Applied Behavioral  Science, 57(4), 530-533.

The generative change model identifies the underlying process that has produced success in a variety of Dialogic Organization Development (OD) and large group intervention cases. It works with widespread stakeholder engagement and self-organizing properties of human systems, to create rapid, transformational change. It appears better suited to managing complex, adaptive challenges than traditional planned change. The paper briefly describes the model and explains one aspect of it in more depth, the use of purpose, instead of vision, to guide the change process.

Let us know what you're up to!

We love to see what our HPL Family is up to! If you have any resources, successes, initiatives or anything else you would like to share with the Global HPL Community make sure to submit them on HPL Online .
