Our Magic Encounters are designed to give teachers an insight into the student voice and, through this, a better understanding of what students understand in their own words.  They support increased parental awareness and engagement with the HPL philosophy.  Additionally, they provide a wider context in which students can strengthen their use and application of the #ACPs and #VAAs.

The intention is to have student competitions running throughout the year and involve a range of age categories. Through  HPL Online and Twitter student learning will be showcased and celebrated across the HPL community. Outstanding student achievements will be awarded by the  Supporting Partner leading the competition.

For each Magic Encounter, we welcome you to attend teacher briefing sessions which outlines the nature of each competition including expectations, criteria by which judgments will be made and a timeframe. HPL’s supporting partners leading on these competitions comprises of the Inspirational Development Group , The Economist Educational Foundation and 8billionideas .

We have three magic encounters running simultaneously, register for one or for all three now!

HPL Online and CSV File

HPL Leads please be mindful that an email was sent out to you by Cassey Benito on Monday, 26th of June , requesting your school's CSV file to access HPL Online.  To ensure that all your staff can access HPL Online, an accurate and up to date CSV file should have been sent to Cassey Benito  by 31st August 2023 . If this has not already been sent to Cassey, please do this as soon as possible. All staff listed in the CSV files are being uploaded to HPL Online during the course of this week.

With the new year, why not add a new year’s resolution?

HPL Online has a vibrant set of Subject Communities . These allow the whole HPL community to discuss their specific subjects and teaching using the HPL philosophy and framework. Why not join in the conversations and have your say? These forums have new posts every two weeks, so there is plenty there to take your interest.  Also, on HPL Online, we have another community forum dedicated to Wellbeing. This forum is led by Yasir Khalafallah N Alsharif

Wellbeing is a key focus for us all.

Within the HPL Online Wellbeing Forum we can share:

  • What we think about wellbeing
  • How to support pupil wellbeing
  • How to support staff wellbeing
We are looking forward to your comments and sharing of experiences. If you would like to lead a subject forum, please contact  Mark Tomlins  and identify which subject you would like to lead.

💡 Thinking Education

Leader Coaches Principles and Issues for In-House Development:

Doug Riddle and Sharon Ting. (2006) -  Leadership in Action: A Publication of the Center for Creative. Wiley Online Library

According to Riddle and Ting (2006) "More and more leaders are taking on coaching responsibilities in their organisations themselves rather than relying solely on external coaches.  Leaders today have to be concerned not only with their personal effectiveness and the performance of their direct reports but also with the development of people who will take the lead in meeting tomorrow’s challenges. Coaching is a well-known way to fill the leadership pipeline, but now, instead of relying solely on external executive coaches, more and more leaders are taking on coaching responsibilities themselves. The leader coach is becoming a fixture in today’s organisations.  T he goal of the leader coach is to help the people being coached to understand themselves more fully so they can draw on their strengths and use them more effectively and intentionally as a means to improve and develop their potential. Much of the work of the leader coach involves helping people gain clarity about their own motivations, aspirations, and commitment to change." -  Riddle, D. and Ting, S. (2006) Leadership in Action: A Publication of the Center for Creative Leadership and Jossey‐Bass, 26(2), pp.13-18.
