8billionideas World Changers Magic Encounters Competition with HPL
8billionideas is a global EdTech & Services company, providing young people with vital skills that will lead them to happiness and fulfilment throughout their lives. These skills are transferable, and allow students to pursue a career and life they're truly passionate about. 8billionideas encourages children to aspire to achieve and unlock their full potential to face all their educational challenges and opportunities.
The 8billionideas mission is loud and clear, and the World Changers Competition is a magic encounter that will challenge students to do just that: change the world with their ideas!
This competition is aimed at Year 12 and 13. Throughout this competition, students will explore social entrepreneurship, inspiring positive change, and impacting the world around us. Winners of the competition will gain access to a skill enhancing workshop with an 8billionideas Mentor.
What will you learn:
- Skills to visualise & prepare for the future.
- Build problem solving skills.
- Develop an entrepreneurial mindset.
- Enhance public speaking & communication skills.

Does cold-calling create an inclusive classroom?
The use of questioning as AFL is a key part of the teacher toolkit and a crucial part of the learning process within a lesson. There are many different approaches to this that include more targeted and closed approaches with differentiated levels of questioning, or more open approaches such as cold-calling where anyone in the room could be called on to respond. For these discussions and more have your say in the Humanities Subject Community led by Bryony Owen.

In HPL Online we have been building strong and vibrant subject community forums. They sit within the Professional Learning section under the “Subject Communities ” tile. If you have not visited these areas before do check them out and have your say on a range of issues in a range of subjects. This year we are looking to expand this team with added subjects represented. According to SN, Taylor et al, "many of the methods used to motivate others to minimise the very motivation essential to change. These commonly used methods all draw people away from the tasks they are supposed to be engaged in to the point that they have little motivation to do them. If efforts to help leaders change themselves are drawing them away from the very changes they need or even want to make, no wonder leaders may struggle to change.
