To provide your staff with access to HPL Online, the HPL Lead needs to fill in as much information as he/she can in the CSV file attached. Only staff recorded will have access to HPL Online.

Using Alps Data to achieve high performance learning
In this case study Matthew Tansley, Head of Secondary at International British School of Bucharest (IBSB) highlights that Alps has been invaluable in allowing staff to be able to track the progress of pupils within their subject areas, and to allow middle leaders, and senior leaders to be able to identify areas of strength, and areas of development within subject areas, and within the school as a whole. Matthew further states that as a World Class HPL school, our philosophy is that "all pupils are capable of high performance” and Alps, and in particular Connect, allows all staff at IBSB to be able to use the data that has been generated through classroom assessment and reported on, to be able to see how pupils are progressing, not just in one subject, but in all subjects that are being taken. Additionally, he alludes that Alps keeps students honest, and also develops accountability, as well as starting conversations to whole school development, allowing schools to continually strive to be their best. Are you interested in using Alps to achieve high performance learning?

Teaching and Learning Beyond the Boundaries - GEMS, Cambridge International School Dubai (CIS) - Fatima Wasim
According to a High School Humanities Teacher, the infusion of High Performance Learning into the curriculum has directed the parents, students, teachers, and school leaders at GEMS, Cambridge International School, Dubai to customize their institution environment, where the content can be flexible, the process can be adaptable, and the resulting product is innovative. Additionally, Fatima adds that in terms of class room management and student engagement HPL proved successful in many ways in solving the most chaotic issue in teaching and learning. HPL classrooms are more engaging, resourceful, innovative, and highly intellectual. Appreciation, setting high standards, and passion for achieving their subject goals always keep them disciplined, goal-oriented, and forward thinkers.

How to make sure the feedback you give students move them forward?
According to Maria Kakengi at St. Mary's School, Cambridge "effective practice is related to good feedback. However, you need to know WHAT to practice in order to improve, and like practice, feedback needs to be targeted and constructive, if it is to be useful in raising academic performance. In the presentation, Maria included a simple case study where teachers experimented the effectiveness of feedback in relation to progress when using different methods of feedback within the Design Technology Department at St Mary’s School Cambridge.
In the the presentation, Maria provides five key action points for more effective feedback. Share your feedback content with us.

💡 Thinking Education
|
|
Professor Deborah Eyre, Founder and Chair at High Performance Learning, discusses why and how school leaders should prioritise building a strong and purposeful culture to create a high performing school. Something that is even more relevant in schools that may still be faced with hybrid learning. It takes a combination of vision, process, consistency and investment – and measurement is critical to reinforce and gauge progress.
In this HPL think-piece, Professor Deborah highlights that "if you want to create a high performing school then the evidence is that culture is what really makes the difference and it ‘trumps structure’ every time. This is because if you have everyone in alignment with the culture then you need to spend much less time on monitoring, as everyone knows how to act in line with the culture and for the most part does. It also creates a sense of satisfaction and well-being with staff, students and parents all feeling this is a school they trust and believe in."

The Diary of an HPL Lead
|

The end (of term) is nigh
Friday 16th June
Having delivered HPL skills days throughout the year to pupils in years 7,8 and 9, and then in the Spring to mid-year joiners, this week saw our first run through of “News Day” for year 10. Students were off timetable for the day, working in teams collecting news stories to edit into their own newspaper or news website, ready for judging in the last lesson. Their teachers delivered press conferences on topics real and imaginary, from climate change and natural disaster through to a kidnapped frog and an AI member of parliament. Students could be found running from conference to conference and then typing, editing, and laying out their papers in a frenzy of activity. I am definitely running this again; it was an excellent enquiry activity and an opportunity for hard work and creativity for all involved.
Monday, 19th June
It fell to me to take assembly today. Deciding on a theme might have been more of a challenge, had it not fallen at the end of school exams and with only a few externals still to run. Resilience seemed like a perfect fit and so I focused on sharing some tips. I had done a bit of research and so shared ideas around taking time out, bigger picture thinking, mindset change and goals.
Wednesday, 21st June
We made sound progress with our fine tuning of the CPD/JPD programme for next year. The Teaching and Learning group will be focused on research, using Walkthrus as a starting point and I’m excited to think where this will take us. We are increasingly handing HPL back to departments to develop what best suits the skills and attributes that their students need, and this foray into research feels like the logical next step. It is causing me to reflect on the HLP induction for teachers joining us in September. We have come so far since this time last year, fresh from an ISI inspection and heading fast towards our HPL reaccreditation. So, I’m going to focus on why HPL matters to us as a school and therefore why it is worth investing time to understand.
