HPL in the UAE in May
HPL staff are often out and about in different parts of the world with Russel Ellicott in China this week. In May, HPL Associate, Carrie Beech, will be joining our UAE based Associates in the UAE for much of the month working with our schools delivering the HPSA.
As well as direct delivery in the Emirates of Sharjah and Fujairah, Carrie will also be working with our partners in the GEMS schools group training the GEMs trainers, meeting Principals and HPL Leads and quality assuring the work we do together.
She has some flexibility whilst she is there to meet with leaders or visit schools, so please ask people to get in touch if they would like to catch up with Carrie whilst she is in town. Getintouch@highperfromancelearning.co.uk

Are you in need of some inspiration on how to align your ACPs with your subject disciplinary knowledge?
King Edward VI Handsworth Wood Girls' Academy aligned their ACPs with their subject disciplinary knowledge. The Academy have been looking at how they can truly embed the ACPs alongside the core knowledge within each curriculum area. Additionally, they have created their vision of the quality of education to ensure that the ACPs sit as the keys to unlock the substantive knowledge within each curriculum domain. Their recent discussions have been about how the ACPs are naturally seen as the disciplinary knowledge within subject areas. Each curriculum area has looked at how their subject operates and aligned these to the ACPs.
Furthermore, they are now working on how to use the language of the ACPs more explicitly to unlock knowledge through learning activities, discussions, independent work and collaborative learning.

Looking for ways to encourage and reward pupils for the use of High-Performance Learning (HPL) skills in your classroom? Nabila Lohiya, Learning Manager from Cambridge International school, Dubai, UAE shared her HPL Classroom Practices with the HPL community. She designed HPL Practices to encourage and reward pupils for the use of High-Performance Learning (HPL) skills in her classroom. She believes this system has had a positive impact on student engagement and achievement.
Nabila implemented HPL Practices in her classroom by creating:
- HPL Pockets for each child in the classroom, this is used whenever a student uses HPL skills in class.
- HPL character badges to reward students who demonstrate a consistent use of HPL skills.
- HPL reflection worksheet that allows students to share which HPL character they have used in a lesson.
What are you doing in your classroom to encourage and reward pupils for the use of High-Performance Learning (HPL) skills?

Join us in welcoming Queen's College to the World Class Schools Award Scheme!
Situated on the edge of the historic county market town of Taunton is Queen’s College, one of the top academic co-educational schools in the South West of England. The gothic-style main building has been overlooking the picturesque Quantock and Blackdown Hills, areas of outstanding natural beauty, since 1846.
Queen’s College prides itself on being the family school of choice in the South West of England, over the past year, pupil admissions have gone up by 12%. Families are choosing the school for its well-balanced offering, including small class sizes, unparalleled facilities, and strong academic delivery. Children can start their journey from as early as 3 months old at the Highgrove Nursery. Children have the opportunity to progress through their entire education within the school (day and boarding places are available) which allows them to grow up in a nurturing and supportive environment, shaping them into well-rounded individuals. The school motto ‘we educate not just for school, but for life’ forms the foundation of Queen’s learning ethos.
We certainly look forward to welcoming Queen's College at the WCSA Induction in May at St. George's House, Windsor Castle.

How are you cracking the collaboration code at your School? In this blog, Dr. Linda Rush - Global Director of HPL Accredited Schools provides thought provoking nuggets on collaboration. In this blog, Linda highlights “as a leader you yourself should be prepared to say “no” to collaboration unless you have an informed level of confidence in your school’s state of readiness to collaborate". Additionally, Linda mentions that “successful professional collaboration will necessarily involve accommodating uncertainty, political astuteness and adaptiveness. It is also dependent upon a holistic approach being taken consisting of the joint development of practice, classroom-based research, mentoring and coaching and through these the building of communities of practice.” Find out how you are able to crack the code of great collaboration within your School.
